The next detail to build was the "web wheel". I wanted some mechanical motion in the machine and, since I had several motors on hand, decided that this would be pretty easy to do.
The second image shows assembled wheel panel of the machine with overhang in place. This would eventually be backlit by another ropelight (green) twisted in loops to look like a "coil" of sorts.
Shown below is another detail of the machine: an indicator faceplate. No machine would be complete without flashing indicators, and these panels were designed to act as gothic faceplates for the machine's lights. After cutting out the forms, I stapled plastic screen material to the backs to diffuse the bulbs that would appear behind them. These faceplates were then painted and attached to the machine with large bolts to add to the industrial "heaviness" of the appearance.
