Here is a poor shot of saucer with its "face" applied (I didn't get any shots of this in progress since I was having a busy week at work and could only work on this project late at night).
I wanted a true metallic looking exterior (not grey paint), and after hours of searching on the Internet, I found a theatrical supplier in Los Angeles that sells mylar in many colors and finishes. I ordered a roll in silver that was 3 feet wide and 50 yards long. Over the course of two nights (again with the help of my wife), I attached the mylar to the PVC frame with clear packing tape.
I've always thought that metallic dryer tubing looks very alien/space-like, so I wanted to use this material as a finish detail. I was blown away by how much it cost, but the end result was worth it. |
